The End Of Something Grand

fold the flag and bring down the banners
take the flowers away, none are needed
for something wonderful has left forever
celebrations now are over and the music
that once played so loudly has faded
crowds that once cheered with exuberance
now has moved on down the darkened street
searching for something else to stand for
midnight moon has hidden his face in clouds
so that we here on the ground may not see
as his tears drip away into stars so bright
the feeling of loss is on everything
for the end of something grand
now has come to pass

and nothing will ever be
the same again
